『リコリス・ピザ』Lesson 1、アラナとゲイリー(Garyの発音は「ギャリー」の方が近いですが）の初デート場面、いかがでしたか？ このシーンのおもしろさを理解する鍵はアラナのセリフです。そこにはいくつかの（字幕には訳されていない）皮肉とからかいのニュアンスが込められています。どのセリフだかわかりますか？

Alana is very skeptical of Gary and basically thinks that he's just pulling her leg. That is why she is acting very sarcastic with him. How many 15 year old have you met that are actors, whose mothers work for them, who dine alone in nice restaurants on weeknights and can afford to buy a girl dinner, and who talk like entrepreneurs?
Probably not many.
週末のレストランにて一人で過し、ときには女性にディナーをおごる。母親を従業員として雇っている15歳の俳優。その語り口は起業家然としている。そんな人に会ったことありますか？ めずらしいでしょうね。そもそも、アラナはゲイリーの言うことをほとんど信じていません。そこで彼女が言う最初の皮肉が下のセリフです。
So, how’d you become such a hotshot actor ?（それで、どうやって第一線の俳優になったの？）
I’m not sure why she uses the word hotshot here, but he suggested she become an actress like it's an easy thing to do, as if anyone can become an actress just like that, so she turns the conversation to him and what he claims to be his profession, and gives him some attitude. Yes, she's being doubtful and sarcastic.
まるで役者なんて誰でも簡単になれるよとばかりにゲイリーは彼女に対して「女優になるといい」と言います。「は？ どうやって？」「あなたにとっては俳優になることは簡単なことだったんでしょうけどね」とアラナは突っかかったような態度で"hotshot"（第一線の）という表現を使っています。そこに疑いと皮肉を含ませて。なるほど。
Oh, of course she does.（そうでしょうとも）
Again, here she's being sarcastic and untrusting. In addition to being an actor, his mom works for him. That's a tall order. She doesn't believe him and responds sarcastically.
Oh. Of course. I should have known that. It's so obvious.
文字通り受け取れば「お母さんはあなたの従業員 そうでしょうとも」です。でもアラナの意味するところは「なわけないでしょ」です。「母親が部下？ そんなの無理でしょ 信じられない」という皮肉を込めて逆の意味で表現しているセリフです。
And you’re a secret agent, too.（おまけに秘密諜報員）
Here, she thinks he's pulling her leg. By making such a ridiculous statement, she's saying that she doesn't believe his other claims.
Sure. You're an actor. Your mother works for you. So you must be a secret agent too, right?
この時点でも、まだアラナはゲイリーが自分をからかっていると考えています。彼の経歴は彼女にとってありえないことだからです。このセリフには「へー 15歳で俳優 しかも母親が従業員 だったら秘密諜報員でもおかしくないわね？」というからかいのニュアンスを含んでいます。
Are you joking?（ジョークで言ってるの？）
She thinks that Gary is being sincere and telling the truth, but she is doubtful, so she straight out asks him if he is joking (if he is telling the truth).
先のセリフに対してゲイリーが「ぼくは秘密諜報員じゃないよ 笑えるね」と反応することから「もしかして この子マジ？ でもまだはっきりしないから 直球の質問をしてみよう」という意味で言っています。
That’s a lot.（いろいろ大変ね でもそんなたくさんこと とても信じられない）
You could be right about this. Or, she might just be saying that all of this is a lot to believe.
Elliotさんに"You have a lot of things to do." または "You have a big responsibility."の意味ですか？ という質問してみたら「それもあるし"All of this is a lot to believe."という意味もあるのではないか」とのことでした。
ぜひもう一度この場面を字幕なしで見てください。アラナがこれらのセリフを言うときの表情とsnarkyな（厭味ったらしい）態度に注目して。そこに込められた皮肉のニュアンスを理解することで、おもしろさが倍増しますよ。
